About

Jason Hendardy, born in the San Francisco Bay Area and currently based in Seattle, creates work that looks at how images and objects shape our understanding of identity, memory, and lived experience. His multidisciplinary practice is anchored in photography and extends into video, sound, and sculpture, using these forms to question how meaning is built through images rather than simply recorded by them.

Through his focus on systems of representation and circulation, Hendardy works across photography and assemblage to consider how personal and cultural narratives are formed from fragments. His work moves between intimate, lived experience and broader cultural structures, often using the language of documentation while pushing against its authority. These ideas come together in This is a Test (Gnomic Book, 2024), a Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation Book of the Month selection. His work has been recognized by publications including Fisheye Magazine and Yogurt Magazine, and is held in library collections at the Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Harvard University, and others. Previously serving as Director of Photography at Breville, Hendardy studied photography and media arts at California College of the Arts and is currently completing his MFA in photography at the University of Hartford.
